The Value of Internships

cpv marketing firm

Today, we bid a fond farewell to our intern, Alexis Jones, as she heads off to begin her junior year at The Ohio State University, studying Art History and Economics. Good luck to you, Alexis, and thank you for all your help this summer!

What did I learn as an intern this summer at Conrad Phillips Vutech? On my first day, I was told to be prepared for anything, and this was certainly good advice.

Though primarily working in the art department, I got to dabble in a bit of everything. This included doing research, attending meetings, designing my own personal logo, and jumping in a car to record a song as a going-away present for Kirk, a retiring CPV partner. I also contributed to the preparations for Cultivate 14, a horticulture conference.

By formatting and assisting with the design of letterheads and advertisements, I further honed my design eye and gained greater experience with design software. On a larger scale, I got to see how the different departments work together to build a brand from the bottom up – from strategy to creative to the finished product. What impressed me most was CPV’s ability to juggle both the desires of clients and the needs and wants of consumers. I valued the chance to see the day-to-day workings of a marketing firm. Interning at CPV gave me a clearer perspective on the type of career I plan to pursue. Not only did I find the experience to be professionally beneficial, but also I was able to act as an asset to the company.

I learned that flexibility and a willingness to help out in all circumstances are important traits in both interns and employees, to always be prepared for anything. CPV is a fun, dynamic workplace and that environment translates to their process and their result.
